Unique font for Auckland Anglican Cathedral
Unique font for Auckland Anglican
Cathedral
A unique piece of art cast in five pieces of solid glass and to be installed in the baptistery at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell is being dedicated to a well-loved church official who died in 2003.
Dean John Rymer, a former Dean of Auckland, was director of the cathedral completion programme between 1991 and 1994. The font weighs a tonne and is being completed by renowned New Zealand glass artist Ann Robinson in a studio in Glendene. Ann Robinson's work is world-renowned and in collections world-wide. It is believed there is no other glass font like it on the planet.
Last night Ms Robinson and John Rymer's widow Joyce Rymer attended a function at the cathedral signalling the start of a fund-raising campaign to pay for the completion of the cathedral baptistery. The campaign has already been pledged $100,000 of the $250,000 cost for completing the baptistery.
