Wellington Rocks On With Clearasil Ultra Schools Tour

The Clearasil Ultra Schools Tour 2007 is set to take Wellington by storm with concert an all ages concert at Zeal on Friday 22 June.

Thousands of Wellington youths will be getting down to the "pop 'n' roll" sounds of headline band Streetwise Scarlet, supported by, Whispers For Warning a five piece rock band from Wellington High School.

Whispers For Warning won first place in the 2006 Wellington regional Rockquest competition and their high placing has been rewarded with the honor of opening a concert for Streetwise Scarlet in front of thousands of their peers.

This year's tour nearly didn't take place due to a lack of funding but Clearasil Ultra's sponsorship has enabled a shortened version of the Schools Tour to take place during June.

Clearasil Ultra Schools Tour Organiser Matt Ealand is excited about getting the show back on the road this year after things looked dead and buried.

"Thanks to Clearasil Ultra, C4, and The Edge we've been able to get the most exciting music mentoring event out to New Zealand high school students once again this year, helping to continue the momentum we've been building over the past five years," says Matt.

Band front man Sam Smith says Streetwise Scarlet is pumped to be doing shows again after spending six months in the studio recording their album.

"While we're not doing the complete full three month tour, we're stoked to be able to get out to more than a dozen schools between Whangarei and Invercargill."

The tour marks the release of the band's newest single 'Hey O', which is about the disintegration of today's society.

"We feel like we have something of importance to say that this audience will want to hear, which is why we got into music - it's the best way to communicate," says Sam.

Sam says the band was formed when he and drummer Scotty Rocker of Celebrity Treasure Island fame met during Schools Tour 2003. Both were acting as support crew for touring band Wash.

"I started writing songs on tour and when we got back to Auckland me and Scotty decided to form the band. Scotty brought along his bassist mate George Hampton and my brother Jesse Smith joined us. That's pretty much how we started up."

The Clearasil Ultra Schools Tour will also be holding an R18 concert The Adelaide Thursday 21 June. The supporting band will be Wellington four piece rock band, Alex the Kid. The event kicks off at 7.00pm and is $10 at the door.
