Wintec’s Spark 07: Free For The First Time

Wintec’s Spark 07: Free To The Public For The First Time

Media Release:

19 July 2007

For the first time in its nine year history, Spark 07, Wintec’s annual week long international festival of media, arts and design will be free to the general public.

In the past, Spark has been a predominantly student focused event, with a few paying guests. However, this year Wintec’s CEO Mark Flowers and the festival organisers saw the potential to grow Spark into a more widely recognised and accessible Hamilton festival which is free to the public.

To enable this to happen, Wintec has increased funding significantly for the festival, which runs Monday to Friday, day and evening, August 6 – 10th.

This year Spark 07 will spring to life with a more diverse and entertaining programme than ever before – there will be something to suit everyone, from contemporary art, music, design, journalism, filmmaking, movie screenings and digital storytelling to live shows and music gigs.

Each presenter will speak with passion about their life and their work. Presentations start each day at 9am at Wintec’s School of Media Arts Moving Image Studio on Collingwood Street in Hamilton. Other free events will take place across Hamilton City, at the Waikato Museum, the Victoria Cinema, the Rialto Cinema, and the Ward Lane Function Centre, so don’t miss the chance to spark your imagination with a week of fun and informative creative entertainment.

The full programme is on the Spark website : www.spark.net.nz
