SPARK 07 – at a parking lot near you!
This year
Spark 07 is extending its walls, and broadening its horizons
to embrace the city of
Hamilton. With past presentations
held only at the Wintec campus, this year Spark 07 is taking
to the streets and beyond.
Every day free Spark festival events will be taking place at different venues right across the city centre. The Waikato Museum will play host to TVNZ’s Peter Williams on Monday afternoon.
Victoria Cinema will be screening films by Beck Cole and Warwick Thornton on Tuesday evening.
Likewise, the Rialto will
screen the UK’s outstanding digital film festival
onedotzero on
Wednesday evening. Then it’s back to the
Waikato Museum for a curator’s floor talk on Thursday
afternoon. Thursday evening winds up with bands The Weather
and The Gills playing live at the Ward Lane Function
Centre.
An ever popular and expanding part of Spark, this
year sees the return of the Fringe Festival
including The
Tea Trolley Inc., a delightful, ever changing exhibition of
quirky works by past and current Wintec students that’s
back by popular demand. And keep an eye on all parking
spaces close to you in the city centre – Urban Cartography
will be out and about all hours of the day and night,
enthralling audiences.
At RAMP Gallery, well known artist,
Seraphine Pick will be exhibiting her latest works, courtesy
of Michael Lett Gallery, Auckland and Hamish McKay Gallery,
Wellington. This is the first exhibition of this leading
artist’s work to be shown in Hamilton. The LEDGE gallery
will contain works by Wellington visual artist, Marnie
Slater.
Other happenings will be taking place in and
around Hamilton include - Chromatological Studies at
Artspost Chartwell Gallery from August 1, an exhibition of
work by Carole Fletcher showing at Platform01 Gallery from
July 25, and 30 Easy Pieces at the new Ariki Gallery from
