Silver Ferns Team Named

National Selectors named today the 12 players selected for the Silver Ferns team for the New World Netball World Championships to be held in Auckland in November.

Silver Ferns Coach Ruth Aitken believes she has the best 12 players to give the Silver Ferns the right combinations to take the team forward to the World Champs. Aitken also confirmed the unavailability of mid-courter Temepara George.

Aitken said there were some tough selection decisions but that she and the National Selectors were confident the 12 players selected will continue to develop further individually and as a unit over the coming months until the Netball World Championships.

“We have a lot of hard work to do over the next four months as we take our game to another level in preparation for the World Champs but we know this team has shown their tenacity and composure as they played into extra time in the test in Melbourne. It’s about taking learnings from both the good and the bad from our recent tour.”

“We believe this is a group of athletes who are extremely committed to the campaign ahead and are each prepared to give it everything they have got,” Aitken said.

The Silver Ferns will have two weeks of rest and recovery following the recent test series - and will regroup again in September where they will then participate in fortnightly training camps around the country.

Silver Fern squad members Anna Scarlett, Liana Barrett-Chase, Daneka Wipiiti, Jade Topia and Debbie White will be included in the programme through to November at various times.

The Silver Ferns will play Malawi in the opening match of the New World Netball World Championships on Saturday 10 November, with the tournament concluding on Saturday 17 November.

Shooters: Irene van Dyk, Maria Tutaia, Jodi Te Huna, Paula Griffin

Midcourt: Adine Wilson – Captain, Maree Bowden, Laura Langman, Julie Seymour

Defence: Leana de Bruin, Casey Williams, Joline Henry, Sheryl Scanlan
