Call for entries 2007 Villa Maria Cult-Couture

Avid fashion designers and artists are invited to submit entries in the 2007 Villa Maria Cult-Couture Awards.

Garments entered for the awards should demonstrate a unique New Zealand interpretation and explore the limits of haute couture and artistry.

Encouraging originality and innovation from designers, this year’s event has been given a stylish, eye-catching new look.

Manukau City Council is coordinating the event and Chantelle Whaiapu, council’s Art Events Manager, says, “The awards are one of the major highlights on Manukau’s art calendar. Every year the standard of Cult-Couture continues to grow and the inventiveness of the designers amazes the judges.

“We’re looking for cutting-edge garments that meet a high standard of design, fashion and cultural interpretation”, says Chantelle

Thanks to the generosity of sponsor Villa Maria, there is $15,000 in prize money to be won. The categories are: Recycled Revolution, Formally Yours, Obviously Organic, Flight of Fantasy, Matrimonial Bliss and On the Streets, plus a special new award to recognise creative excellence from Manukau designers.

Entries close on 14 September 2007. The competition is open to anyone 18 years and over. Finished garments must be received by 13 October 2007.

A special preview evening will be held on 23 November, followed by the awards night on 24 November. Both events will be held at the Genesis Theatre, TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre.

Other awards sponsors are: GHD, MCC Waste Management, Datacom, Auckland International Airport Limited and Meredith Connell.
