Tiger opens wide
For the first time ever, experiential art event Tiger Translate is to open its doors to members of the public.
Launched in New Zealand two years ago, the Tiger Translate concept has since gone global, with events in New York, Beijing and Berlin.
Created by Tiger beer, Tiger Translate invites audio visual and experimental artists to create work and display it at one-off events featuring some of the globes best bands and djs.
Translate is an art exhibition like no other, a multi-sensory event combining art, design and music to create a memorable montage of contemporary and traditional works. A multitude of installations and architectural works allows the viewer to move through the artworks and in so doing, discover new meaning.
On August 19, Tiger Translate will open its doors to the public, who will be able to experience the stunning East-meets-West vision of New Zealand’s and Asia’s underground art elite – including an Asian-market to interact with, a ‘human photocopier’ and oversized origami sculptures.
Luke Rive, brand manager for Tiger Beer says discovery plays a big part in the vision for Translate 2007.
“By creating a completely new venue we have the ability to shape a new experience for guests and public viewers. This is an exhibition to really excite the senses and we’re really looking forward to seeing how the artists interpret the theme.
“Gold, the theme for this year’s event, is highly noticeable and valuable. This combined with gold’s historical significance for Asia and the physical properties of the substance makes for a wide scope of interpretation.”
The exhibition is curated by The Wilderness and is free to the public during the week beginning August 20, with an official public opening on Sunday 19th August.
The location of Tiger Translate 2007 is a basement on Nuffield street Newmarket and visitors can be assured the venue provides the perfect backdrop to the mind-blowing, multi-sensory event that immerses them in art.
Tiger Translate was initially developed in New Zealand with the objective of using visual art to interpret the merge of traditions cultures and tastes from the Asian East with the European West.
Tiger Beer liked the idea so much it has exported the concept to other markets around the world, including New York, Beijing and Berlin. Tiger Translate 07 is the third event of its kind held in Auckland. The first was at the Transmission Room in 2005 and the second at Britomart’s Pavillion in 2006.
Tiger Translate 2007 VIP invitation only opening is on Friday 17 August, with public opening on Sunday 19 August from 12.00 – 4.00pm. The venue will also be open from 12.00 – 6.00pm daily from Monday 20th – Friday 24th August.
