Beckham - Bravo to Terry and the Council
Beckham Extravaganza - Bravo to Terry and the
Council for their Vision
Yellow Fever, Wellington
Phoenix FC’s supporters club, has congratulated both
Terry Serepisos and the Wellington City Council for its
vision in bringing David Beckham to Wellington – and
criticised the short-sightedness of those opponents to the
Council’s financial contribution.
Yellow Fever now has nearly 3000 registered members – and you can be guaranteed plenty of them will vote for a mayor based on their views about the Phoenix, Beckham and football. After some of the grizzlers voiced their opposition yesterday, we thought it was important to remind people there are also a lot of people 100% behind this event and the Council’s role.
“This is terrific for football in Wellington and New Zealand. To think Becks might pack the Ring of Fire is an unbelievable opportunity for the game. Once again, Terry has shown great vision and a good dose of courage,” said Yellow Fever founding member, Mike Greene.
Greene also had praise for the Council and Mayor Prendergaast for having the vision to financially contribute to the Beckham extravaganza.
“The lion’s
share of the financial risk is being carried by Terry, yet
Wellington business will reap the retail benefits of the
event and Wellington as a city gets almost unfathomable
international profile. It is a no brainer from Wellington
City investment perspective.”
“Many quality people live in Wellington for its tremendous lifestyle. Entertainment and events like this are part of Wellington’s recruitment credentials as an international city. Bravo to Mayor Prendergaast for her support for this,” said Greene.
Yellow Fever has also invited mayoral candidates to disclose to Yellow Fever members whether they have been to a Phoenix match and what they would do as mayor for football – at www.yellowfever.co.nz
