D-FUSE and Re-Imagining the City

Friday 21 September - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MIC Toi Rerehiko, British Council and onedotzero

present D-FUSE and Re-Imagining the City

Re-imagine the city this October when London-based AV pioneers D-Fuse visit Auckland to exhibit at MIC, take part in an artist panel and screening, and perform live at Galatos.

Gallery Exhibitions: 18 October – 14 December FREE

D-FUSE will exhibit their video installations Small Global and Undercurrent at MIC’s 321 K Rd Gallery.

Small Global explores the impact of corporate giants on local economies and the environment using data-driven, multi-screened environments, 3D animation, still photography and vector maps to deconstruct our daily diet of convenience and technology.

Undercurrent explores the psycho-geography of urban life in cities in China and the UK, following rivers through post-industrial landscapes to investigate urban architecture, economic and social change, as well as our personal relationship to the space that surrounds us.

Re-Imagining the City Panel and Screening: 17 October at Galatos from 6.30pm FREE

Local creatives Caroline Robinson (Cabal), Sue Gallagher (AUT) and Richard Reid (Architect) join D-Fuse to discuss the role of artists in shaping cities of the future. Followed by graphic cities – innovative moving image work re-interpreting urban environments, curated by onedotzero (UK).

D-Fuse Live Performance: 18 October at Galatos from 8pm $20/15 students

D-Fuse present the world premiere of Surface – live sonic cinema inspired by the sights and sounds of our rapidly changing urban environments. New collaborative content will be added as D-Fuse tour East Asia with this evolving work – look out for local scenes on-screen.

D-Fuse have played/performed at Sonar (Barcelona), The V&A Museum (London), Tribeca Film Festival (New York), Mori Arts Centre (Tokyo) and Life Hub (Shanghai). They have collaborated with musicians including Scanner, Swayzak, Steve Reich + the London Symphony Orchestra and Beck - who commissioned a series of videos and a world tour based on his 2005 album Guero.

Re-imagining the City focuses on our shared urban future through the eyes of designers, architects, film makers and creatives. Curated by the British Council and onedotzero, Re-Imagining the City is part of Creative Cities, a cultural and artistic project promoting global citizenship across East Asia. The D-Fuse exhibition is curated exclusively in NZ by MIC Toi Rerehiko.

MIC Toi Rerehiko promotes interdisciplinary media-arts in Auckland, supporting an environment of innovation, in which fusion of art and technology is developed and nurtured. MIC receives major funding from Creative NZ, ASB Community Trust, and Auckland City. www.mic.org.nz
