Show Me Shorts Film Festival
Show Me Shorts Film Festival
The Show Me Shorts Film Festival is thrilled to announce the line-up for its second annual showcase of the best and brightest short filmmaking talent from New Zealand and Australia.
Forty films, twenty each from New Zealand and Australia, will be screened in a week long competition of the best celluloid action both countries have to offer. The battle is on!
These films are predominantly New Zealand and world premieres, so will offer exciting and fresh viewing experiences. Many of the filmmakers from both Australia and New Zealand will be in attendance, and the public are invited to mingle with them at the opening night awards evening.
The Show Me Shorts team are excited that this year the festival will be expanding to Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, giving the whole of New Zealand a chance to join in the thrills, laughs, scares and warmth of this selection of purely trans-Tasman short films. Each session is themed to make choosing easy, with titles like ‘Lovers Lane’, ‘Human Machine’ and ‘I See Dead People’.
Topic and content varies among shorts vying for the top honour of Best Film. Australian production Professor Pebbles tells the animated tale of a teacher in Hell bored of teaching ‘basic evil’ to school children; Danny Boy, filmed in New Zealand, explores the world of a child after he loses his only confidant; and in Man 2.0, a mockumentary and world premiere, a clever entrepreneur draws us into a future where computers, phones and cameras are implanted directly into your head.
“I’m fizzing with anticipation,” says Festival Director Gina Dellabarca. “It’s great that Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, as well as Auckland, will get the chance to see the films this year – especially since we had a good number of entries from those places. The equal amount of films from each country will also make for a fierce competition … fair yet fierce!”
Show Me Shorts takes place from 8-14 November at Academy Cinemas in Auckland, 16-18 November at Metro Cinema Dunedin, 23-25 November at the Regent on Worcester in Christchurch and 30 November to 1 December at the Paramount Theatre in Wellington.
