Jun Lands Top Tee In Glassons BCRT Fashion Week Competition

No sooner had 24 year old, Jun Arita, arrived in the country when he was told he will be joining top New Zealand fashion designers to create a t-shirt for the 2008 Glassons BCRT T-shirt collection.

Visiting New Zealand on a one year working holiday from Osaka in Japan, the young graphic designer with a love for fashion and art, was one of 400 people to enter the Glassons Fashion Week competition.

Now a very excited Jun will have his design sold nationwide next to creations from some of the country's leading names in fashion including the likes of Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester and Trelise Cooper.

"I'm so happy to have been chosen, I can't quite believe it," says Jun who is currently staying with friends in Whangaparoa. "It is my passion to one day design clothes so this is like a dream come true."

Jun says his inspiration for his t-shirt design came from a recent visit to the Puhoi honey centre. "There were lots of buzzy bees there which I know are a popular Kiwi icon," he explains.

"I thought the buzzy bees were great and they made me so happy that I wanted to include them in my design together with other symbols that depict New Zealand like of course your Kiwi."

The Glassons Breast Cancer Research Trust t-shirt campaign has now been running for five years, and has involved some of New Zealand's, and the world's, top designers and celebrities. During that time it has become a highlight in a kiwi fashionista's diary - with hundreds of thousands of Kiwi women proudly buying and wearing the t-shirts in support of the important cause.

More importantly, the campaign has already raised more than $2.8 million for The Breast Cancer Research Trust.

Jun's winning design was judged by some previous campaign designers including Dan Buckley from Huffer, Cybèle Wiren from Cybèle and Elizabeth Shand from Ruby. The T-shirts will showcase on the Glassons' racks early next year.
