New Zealand's Sexiest TV Males Compete For Votes

Press Release 11 October 2007

New Zealand's Sexiest TV Males Compete For Votes

Smooth and suave or loveable rogue - what makes a kiwi man sexy? That's the question New Zealand women will be grappling with as they decide the Sexiest Man on TV in the TV Guide's 2007 Best On The Box people's choice awards.

Will one of the sexy westies from Outrageous Fortune steal the title from reigning champion boy-next-door news presenter Simon Dallow (ONE News) or will love-him-or-hate him colleague Breakfast host Paul Henry capture the hearts of voters?

Seven presenters and actors (or is it their characters?) have been nominated by the TV Guide panel to vie for the title of the Sexiest Man on TV.

It is now up to the viewing public to decide who the winner is and they will go into the draw to win a home entertainment system valued at over $3600 just for placing their vote. Last year there were over 12,000 votes from viewers for their favourite New Zealand TV personalities and shows.

As well as Dallow and Henry, those nominated range from Anthony Starr, who plays the ultra-suave Jethro West and his twin, rougish brother Van on Outrageous Fortune, through to Tammy Davis, who plays the lovable best friend, Munter on the same programme.

Actors Aaron Jeffrey (Outrageous Fortune, McLeod's Daughters) and Ben Mitchell (Shortland Street), and presenter Jeremy Wells (Eating Media Lunch) have also been nominated.

TV Guide Editor Julie Eley says there is strong competition in the nominees for this year's Sexiest Man with some unlikely candidates as well as some old-time favourites like Simon Dallow. Simon is a firm favourite having won the award for five years running, she says.

"This year's Sexiest Man nominees are characterised by some unlikely sex symbols. Tammy Davis from Outrageous Fortune, and Breakfast's Paul Henry both slightly redefine the archetype of sexy but have immensely strong fan followings," says Julie. "Whether they have what it takes to take the people's choice award from Simon Dallow is another question."

The Sexiest Man category is just one of 26 categories in this year's TV Guide Best On The Box Awards. Categories range from Best Actor to Best News Presenter to Favourite Kids Show, Funniest Person on TV and a new category, Best Special Event.

As with all Best On The Box Awards, the title of the Sexiest Man on TV will be decided by popular vote - with all television viewers able to register their choice. They can vote through forms in the October 11 and 18 issues of the TV Guide or online at http://www.tv-guide.co.nz/BOTB code BOTB1011 or visit our Best On The Box Group on Facebook. Voting closes on November 2 at 5pm.

The winner of all of the TV Guide Best On The Box Awards will be announced in the November 15 issue of the magazine. ENDS
