Mystic India Comes To Life On Imax
SKYCITY Cinemas brings India to life on the largest cinema screen in the country with the exclusive release of Mystic India. An incredible journey of inspiration, this entertaining, educating and enlightening film is the world’s first large screen format epic on India.
The film, produced by prominent non-profit organisation BAPS Care International, provides a stunning and in-depth look at the culture and history of India.
The film follows the inspiring true story of Neelkanth who, at age 11, set out alone on a seven-year journey across India. With its breathtaking scenery and compelling live action, this cinematic experience showcases India’s festivals and traditions through song, dance and the beauty of the country’s architecture.
More than an awe-inspiring journey, the film presents a unique voyage into the mind and soul of India through the eyes of a child and his heroic tales of tolerance and survival, and his values of faith, friendship and fearlessness.
The underlying message of Mystic India is that of unity in diversity. The film showcases how the many different cultures, faiths, and races within India co-exist and learn from one another.
Matthew Liebmann, General Manager SKYCITY Cinemas, says, “Seeing Mystic India at IMAX is the next best thing to actually travelling to India. The epic proportion of the film is incredible. In particular, the climax in the Rath Yatra (The Festival of Chariots), as five-storey high chariots on mammoth wheels roll past 8,000 people in eighteenth century period dress - the experience is immense and intense.”
Over two shooting schedules in March to May 2003 and January to February 2004, the Mystic India production team travelled to more than 100 different film locations in India, at times shooting in hostile conditions at a height of 13,000 feet, re-creating the adventures of Neelkanth in the astonishing detail of large screen format.
Capturing dazzling images and scenes on a scale never seen before in large format, with narration by Peter O’Toole, Mystic India transports the audience to some of India’s most sacred and treasured destinations.
Mystic India received The Audience’s Choice Prize Award at the 2005 La Geode Film Festival in Paris and was nominated for the Best Cinematography Award at GSTA 2005.
Mystic India opens at SKYCITY Cinemas IMAX Theatre, SKYCITY Metro Building, 291-297 Queen St, on Thursday, October 25 For ticket information and session times, phone the SKYCITY Cinemas information line on (09) 302 0002, or visit www.skycitycinemas.co.nz to download a teachers’ study guide.
