75 Years Young At Youthtown

75 Years Young At Youthtown

Celebrate the Youthtown Alive @ 75 Expo on 6-9 December 2007

Youthtown is turning 75 and to mark the occasion it’s having a birthday party. But this is no ordinary party because Youthtown is no ordinary 75 year old. After all, how many 75 year olds celebrate their milestone with a four-day long party?

From Thursday 6th to Sunday, 9th December, Youthtown will be holding a four-day festival and expo to showcase its facilities and educate the public on the many services it has been offering for the past 75 years.

Youthtown grew out of the efforts made by concerned Aucklanders in the depression years of the 1930s to provide unemployed youths with an alternative to wandering the streets and getting into trouble. Starting as a boxing gym, it has progressively grown and adapted, and now provides young people with a uniquely diverse range of sporting, cultural and social activities, as well as a safe and welcoming place to come to when school is out.

Youthtown’s facilities are fit for the needs of the 21st century youth; you’ll find an Art Zone, Learning Centre, swimming pool, basketball court, cooking area, squash court and gym along with all the equipment to shoot a film. Additionally, Youthtown offers school holiday programmes, after school activities, summer and winter camps as well as running suburban programmes across Auckland, with the aim of taking them Nationwide.

The Alive @ 75 event features a huge line-up over four days. From breakdancing, basketball displays, a short film festival, performances and creative displays – it will all be there. So join the party and see first-hand the benefit Youthtown has in the lives of Auckland’s youth.

All we ask now is that you place the dates in your diary. We will be in touch over the next few weeks to let you know what the exciting line-up for the four-day expo is, and how you can be involved.
