Dame Kiri To Star In Skycity Starlight Symphony
SKYCITY is proud to announce that it will once again be bringing the spectacular free public event - SKYCITY Starlight Symphony - to the Auckland Domain on Saturday February 23, 2008.
In celebration of the tenth year anniversary of SKYCITY’s major sponsorship, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will be appearing for a special performance at the show.
Dame Kiri is one of opera's most celebrated contemporary figures and this will be her first performance in the Auckland Domain since 1996.
“I am excited to be part of the 2008 SKYCITY Starlight Symphony. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of New Zealand’s greatest musical talent, which is something I am very passionate about supporting,” said Dame Kiri.
“To share an evening of classical music under the stars with more than 150,000 people will be a truly magical experience.”
SKYCITY Auckland General Manager, David Christian, is proud of SKYCITY’s decade-long sponsorship of Starlight Symphony and is thrilled that Dame Kiri will be starring in next year’s show alongside some of New Zealand’s best operatic voices.
“The event will be an unforgettable summer evening with incredible music and entertainment from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, a massed choir and talented instrumentalists. As in previous years the night will culminate in an impressive display of lasers and fireworks.
“We’re are also very pleased to announce all fundraising from the 2008 SKYCITY Starlight Symphony will go to Kidz First,” said Mr Christian.
SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust Chairperson, Jock Irvine, says the Trust is also delighted to help bring the popular event to New Zealand.
“Starlight Symphony is a great initiative for the SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust to get behind. The event brings joy to many New Zealanders and supports our local music community.”
