Hell Freezes Over
Hell's frozen over as the band who once swore they’d not get back together till just that had happened, The Eagles, land an out-of-the-box #1 album.

It's the 13th time they have charted here but Long Road To Eden represents the first complete set of new Eagles tunes in 28 years (since The Long Run made it to #2 in 1979, in fact).

It's a very good birthday present for Glenn Frey, one of two founder members still in the group, who turned 59 on November 6 (Don Henley, the other original member, was 60 back in July).

It gives the group their third New Zealand #1 album, the others being 1977's Hotel California and 1985's The Best Of The Eagles. One Of These Nights was the band's first charting album here, making #2 in July 1975.

The New Singles

#28 Linkin Park - Shadow Of The Day

It's the third hit of 2007 and the third from Minutes To Midnight, making it nine in total for LA’s Linkin Park.

#31 Delta Goodrem - In This Life

Fresh to both the Singles and Albums list this week is Oz songstress Delta Goodrem who returns after three years with In This Life, new at #31. It’s the lead single from her self-titled third set, Delta. It brings her hit tally to an even half dozen following on from her 2003 chart-topping Born To Try debut.

#34 Sugababes - About You Now

Last week's UK #1, About You Now, pops in at #34 for female trio Sugababes. It’s the lead track for their recently released Change album. Overload got the hits started for the girls in December 2000.

#39 Pink - Cuz I Can

Pink has had more hits than any other act in this week's Singles Chart. With Cuz I Can new at #39, that’s 17 hits in all. It all began in May 2000 when There You Go got the ball rolling.

The New Albums

#1 The Eagles - Long Road Out Of Eden

See story above.

#8 Britney Spears - Blackout

Proving Oscar Wilde right, the much talked about Britney Spear zips in at #8 on a very heavy entry week with her first album of new material in four years. Blackout gives the soon-to-be-26-year-old her third Top 10 album here, her 1999 #3 debut Baby One More Time and 2000 #2 sophomore Oops I Did Again being the others.

#9 Whitney Houston - The Ultimate Collection

Mrs Bobby Brown places the second hits compile of her career straight in at #9. The Ultimate Collection becomes her first charting album in seven years since The Greatest Hits made #10. The 44-year-old has a trio of #1 albums - Whitney Houston (1985), Whitney (1987) and The Bodyguard (1992). On the new collection are Whitney's three #1 singles: 1987's I Wanna Dance With Somebody, 1992's I Will Always Love You and 1998's My Love Is Your Love.

#12 Delta Goodrem - Delta

From the top of the Aussie list to #12 first-week here comes Delta Goodrem's Delta. Both her previous sets have peaked Top 5 here.

#19 Seether - Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces

South African-formed, LA-based rockers Seether's third chart set Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces opens six places higher than the #25 peak of 2005's Karma And Effect. Lead singer Shaun Morgan's girlfriend, Amy Lee from Evanescence, joined them on their sole hit single, 2004's #2 Broken.

#22 Puscifer - V Is For Vagina

The only new act amongst the eight new albums entering this week is really a multimedia, trans-product project from Tool mainman Maynard James Keenan. Going by the moniker Puscifer, and the kind've related V Is For Vagina, it joins the list at #22.

#23 Andrea Bocelli - Vivere: The Best Of

Blind Italian male tenor Andrea Bocelli's first compile Vivere: The Best Of joins his 11 previous chart sets here at #23. It's been 10 years since the five-times platinum Romanza made #8. Andrea has sold over 255,000 albums in New Zealand.

#26 Will Martin - A New World

Local new comer 22-year-old Will Martin is one of 11 Kiwis on this week's Albums list. His classical crossover debut A New World opens at #26.
