'INSIDE OUT' Art Exhibition

'INSIDE OUT' Art Exhibition
"Everything you can imagine is real" Pablo Picasso 1881-1973

Gareth Price

Carl Foster
13 -30 November
Preview: 5.30 pm 13 November

Inside Out showcases a unique collection of paintings by two highly talented emerging artists, Carl Foster and Gareth Price. Each artist depicts striking images of their 'inner world' through a vastly different lens. It is evident that what lies on the inside is very real for both artists and as such their visualisations represent their perception of reality. Through their depictions that reality is turned 'inside out' so to speak and becomes finally our reality too.

CARL FOSTER

Carl Foster is a New Zealand born artist with Latin heritage. He is a dedicated artist who at the age of 22 years has already produced a significant body of work with this being his third exhibition with Aesthete Gallery.

Carl is a self taught artist whose inner world is often expressed dynamically in a cubist figurative expressionist style. He is inclined to paint with abstraction from the imagination rather than necessarily observing a scene. A gifted colourist, typically his colours will be found to almost cascade gently and expertly next to each other with a precise blending technique. His refined and accomplished colour graphics invariably result in a visually complex and highly detailed style.

Points of inspiration for Carl include old movies and science fiction programmes from the 1960's as well as nature documentaries. Carl is influenced predominately by the Impressionist painters as well as Cezanne, Pissaro , Wifredo Lam and Fernend Leger.

GARETH PRICE
It is with pleasure that we introduce you to the work of Gareth Price. Born in Auckland in 1971, Gareth is an accomplished and self taught artist. He paints in a surreal style with a tendency towards a darker palette that often contrasts in the same instance with vibrant, brilliant almost psychedelic turns of colour.

Inside Out for Gareth is synonymous with an 'everyday apocalypse' which quite literally translates into 'doing the supermarket shopping and wondering if there is a God'.

Gareth's work is largely about themes that everyone relates to such as belief systems, growth and maturity, addictions and a growing awareness with regard to environmental issues. Much of these themes are reflective of Gareth's own life journey. As such his works chronicle his own personal development.

Gareth's signature statement is to juxtapose the ordinary with the extroadinary and the real with the surreal. He is inspired by Rozi Dermont, Peter Stitchbury, Salvador Dali and Max Ernst.
