SKYCITY Set To Thrill For Christmas And New Year 08 Click for big version Click for big version Click for big version

This Christmas and New Year, SKYCITY explodes with the biggest, most spectacular, free entertainment on show in Auckland.

The countdown to the biggest party of the year, which will include more fireworks than ever seen before on New Year's Eve, begins on December 1 with a 31-day calendar that firmly positions SKYCITY as Auckland's most thrilling destination.

So head on down to SKYCITY Auckland in December and join us for the most spectacular party in town.

Let the games begin!

Christmas Calendar Of Entertainment

Atrium
During December, the Atrium will be transformed into a surreal tropical rainforest dressed with massive hanging flowers, neon pods and lights. Inhabiting this 'Carnivale!' will be some of the quirkiest characters ever seen. The characters, played by 35 world-class aerial acrobatic artists will perform death-defying routines as part of their nightly shows from December 6 to 31.

Thursday to Saturday nights, at 9.30pm and again at 11.00pm, from December 6 to 22, a very special show will be performed in the Atrium. Entitled 'Buzz', the show tells the story of an insatiable bumblebee on a search for nectar and will feature an incredible cast climbing vines high into the rafters and an original soundtrack provided by Dunedin composer/producer 'Leyton'.

Bar3
On Level 3 of SKYCITY, live bands and DJs will be turning it up from December 6 at Bar3.
The play list features:

  • Thursdays: Midge Marsden and Hammond Gamble, Nathan Haines, Debbie Harwood and Kim Willoughby

  • Fridays: Soulful house music

  • Saturdays: DJs General Lee and Sample G.

  • Sundays: The ever-popular sounds of Paul Sharplin

Sky Tower fun for the kids
Auckland's favourite tower will be full of cheer this year as Santa's grotto makes its new home in Sky Lounge on level 51 of the Sky Tower.

Kids can get a free photo with jolly Santa, from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily, as parents relax with a flat white and enjoy the 360-degree view of the city.

New Year's Eve At Skycity

SKYCITY Auckland will be R20 adults' playground on New Year's Eve. Early in the evening, stilt-walkers dressed in vibrant colours will perform choreographed routines at the base of the Sky Tower, while live musicians entertain the crowds. The experience will intensify as guests enter the Atrium's fluorescent garden fantasy.

The decadent and delightful theme continues with the performance of a body-painted, underwater butterfly, who will perform behind the Atrium waterfall. This daring and stunning performer will seduce all whose eyes fall upon her.

Upstairs, the Atrium Bar will host a performance by the show-stopping 'Beat Girls', whilst over on the Main Gaming Floor, a range of live entertainment will be in full swing. The atmosphere will be one of smoky glamour with a dream-like quality, as half-animal/half-human creatures roam the complex.

Then later, on the Main Gaming Floor, the evening will heat up when pop sensation 'Diva' takes the stage

The biggest Sky Tower New Year’s Eve fireworks display ever!

David Christian, General Manager – SKYCITY Auckland, said: “For live entertainment, SKYCITY will be the place to be during the festive season, leading up New Year’s Eve 2007 which is set to be the biggest, boldest and brightest yet, with three times more fireworks set to explode than ever before.

“With the approach of midnight, The Sky Tower becomes a beacon for everyone celebrating the New Year and when midnight strikes, all of Auckland will look towards the Tower to ring in 2008 with the most spectacular display of pyrotechnics we’ve ever seen.”
