The drop-in proposition
The drop-in proposition
Love on a high note was very much the order of the day on Saturday (24 November) when Brit Matt Johnson proposed to his girlfriend of three and a half years, Natalie Meier, via a banner on the ground which she viewed from mid tandem skydive.
Weeks of
planning paid off for Matt (27) as Natalie (29), attached to
her Nzone tandem master, spotted a huge sign asking ‘WILL
YOU MARRY ME?’ laid out on the ground beneath her.
The answer was ‘yes’, delivered by a shocked Natalie, who was second to take her skydive leap over Lake Wakatipu, following in her fiancé’s footsteps. Matt waited nervously below, ring in hand.
“Natalie landed, sat down on her bum and just looked totally shocked by my proposal. In the end I had to ask her to stand up, so I could get down on one knee!” said Matt.
“We first met in New Zealand and we’re both really into crazy activities, so tandem skydiving seemed the ideal way to pop the question. I wanted the day to be memorable and novel; I think I’ve achieved that!
“It’s great because we’ve got the whole thing recorded on DVD to play back to all our family in the UK when we eventually get home.”
Currently in New Zealand on a one-year working holiday, Matt and Natalie (who are based in Auckland) plan to get married in a small town near Natalie’s home city of Cardiff, during Easter 2009.
