id Dunedin Fashion 08 – fashion on the edge

TUESDAY 27 NOVEMBER 2007 (DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

id Dunedin Fashion 08 – fashion on the edge

A spectacular line-up of designers will feature in the ninth annual Southern Trust id Dunedin Fashion Show 2008 to be held at the Dunedin Railway Station on Saturday 1 March 2008.

Twenty five labels from established, emerging and new generation designers will take part in the show, which is the culmination of the Southern Trust id Dunedin Fashion Week.

Dunedin is a unique city renowned for its creative talent and global success stories. For the last eight years, Dunedin has been the setting for a fashion extravaganza of existing and new talent. This year is no exception. Despite, and perhaps because of its remote location, Dunedin fashion has been described as edgy, directional and dynamic.

The Southern Trust id Dunedin Fashion Show 2008 will showcase cutting edge fashion from nine designers – Nom*D, Carlson, Cherry Cotton Candy, Mild Red, Charmaine Reveley, Veronica Keucke, Aduki, Love Lies Bleeding and Sharon Ng.

Originally from North Otago, Sharon Ng combines immaculate tailoring and contemporary European design with influences from her Chinese heritage and colours from the Southern New Zealand landscape. Working with designs from well known New Zealand artists such as Bill Hammond, Philip Trusttum, Tim Main and Ralph Hotere, Ng creates fashion that promotes fine art together with high quality textiles.

This year there will be Capsule Collections in the id Dunedin Fashion Show featuring mini-collections from six designers – Tamsin Cooper, Elusiv, Joan Leach and newcomers Aiomias and Cheryl Burtenshaw and Cirrus (from Tamahine).

The line up for the id Dunedin Fashion Show contains the notable omission of Dunedin label Dot Com. Locally based Tamahine Holdings have decided to cease production of the streetwear range in order to provide more focus to established brands such as the Cirrus range which features in the ‘Capsule’ section of the show.

The Cirrus Winter 08 range is the creation of Tamahine Designer Janelle Bennett and will feature the innovative knitwear that Tamahine is renowned for, inspired by a strong French aesthetic. Soft natural fabrics provide the base; layering and texture dominate this years range.

And this year, at least four designers will feature menswear in their line-ups; Love Lies Bleeding, Nom*d, Aduki and Elusiv.

An announcement will be made later this week on the five graduates from Otago Polytechnic Fashion School who will burst onto the New Zealand fashion scene through their inclusion in the id Dunedin Fashion Show.

The special guest designer for the Southern Trust id Dunedin fashion Show on 1 March remains a closely guarded secret. Last year’s show was taken to a new level by the amazing Auckland-based designer Cybèle Wiren with her "Blue Blood" Winter 2007 collection.

The id Dunedin Fashion Show celebrates its ninth birthday in 2008 and is the premium event for the Southern Trust id Dunedin Fashion Week held from 26 Feb to 1 March 2008.

About The Southern Trust id Dunedin Fashion Week

With its youthful spirit and atmosphere, Southern Trust id Dunedin Fashion Week is a launch-pad for emerging designers in New Zealand and abroad.

The id Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards was three years old in 2007, and is part of the fast-growing id Dunedin Fashion Week which celebrated its ninth birthday in 2007.

The fashion week culminates in two major events; the id Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards; and the main show which is held at The Dunedin Railway Station. The beautiful old stone Flemish Renaissance style railway station has been ranked among the world's '200 must-see places' by a leading travel guide.

The collaboration between the fashion community, education and business, fashion designers, fashion workers and the city started in 2000 and now showcases the best of Dunedin and New Zealand fashion.

Southern Trust id Dunedin Fashion Week is the only New Zealand fashion week designed especially for the public, which is a result of Dunedin's inclusive and welcoming spirit. It is a non profit event run by a voluntary committee.

The 2008 id Dunedin Fashion Week has been made possible through a substantial partnership with The Southern Trust.

The Southern Trust, with its Head Office in Dunedin, is a not-for-profit organisation licensed to operate gaming machines throughout New Zealand. The Trust's overall vision is to maximise the return of gaming revenue, for the benefit of the community.
