Openair Cinema announces its 5th Season

Al fresco films are back with the return of one of New Zealand’s summer favourites, the Openair Cinema. This year the Openair Cinema, which ran for three years at the Viaduct Harbour in Auckland, will be travelling to three different Holiday spots during January: Pauanui in The Coromandel (28 December to 9 January), Paihia in The Bay of Islands (11 to 19 January) and Matakana (22 to 27 January).

Highlights in the programme this year are the hilarious ‘Airguitar Nation’ – a hugely entertaining documentary which follows some American artists to the World Championships in Finland, the English Drama-Comedy ‘Grow Your Own’ and ‘Steep’ a doco about Extreme Skiing, which has to be enjoyed on the biggest screen possible. Also ‘made’ for the big screen is the documentary ‘The White Planet’ about the magical life in the chill of the Arctic. Other films in the program are ‘Elizabeth – The Golden Age’, ‘The Simpsons Movie’, ‘Surf’s Up’, ‘Darjeeling Limited’, the New Zealand comedy ‘Eagle vs Shark’ and ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by Coward Robert Ford’ starring Brad Pitt. All Openair Cinema events will have a grass area provided for ‘bring your own seating’.

Openair Cinema programmes are published online: www.openair.co.nz. Tickets can be bought at the gate and at dedicated pre-sale offices. Ticket prices are $13 for Adults, $11 for Senior Citizens and Students and $7 for Children under twelve.

Free Openair Cinema at Auckland’s North Shore and in Auckland City

North Shore City is presenting free movies over eight weekends in different parks on the Shore. With this program the City, north of the bridge, has aligned itself with New York and Paris, where free outdoor screenings have been very popular for many years. While The North Shore City Council is showing a mix of popular movies and Arthouse Films, the Auckland City Council is linking its five free movie nights at Tahaki Reserve with the NZ Film Commission’s 30th anniversary and the successful Music in Parks program.
