Bringing The Festive Spirit To Those In Need
The Salvation Army will be able to provide needy families in New Zealand with more Christmas hampers than ever this year thanks to a grant from The Lion Foundation.
The $138,358 grant will enable the purchase of an extra 2,767 hampers for families. The hampers, which will be delivered in the run up to Christmas Day, will contain the essentials for a festive family Christmas. The gifting on the hampers continues a tradition going back over 120 years, of The Salvation Army providing ongoing assistance for people in need.
Major Janee Sawyer, The Salvation Army’s Public Relations Officer for the Northern Region commented, “As the festive season approaches, it is important to remember those who may not have such a happy Christmas to look forward to. The Christmas season brings with it financial challenges which stretch household budgets to breaking point, often resulting in basic needs not being met. We are very grateful to The Lion Foundation for giving us the opportunity to spread the festive spirit to those in need.”
