Experience I Am Legend in IMAX at Skycity Cinemas Queen Street

I AM LEGEND: AN IMAX EXPERIENCE OPENS ON JANUARY 3, 2008

Audiences will be “infected” with thrills when I AM LEGEND opens at IMAX at SKYCITY Cinemas Queen Street on January 3, 2008. Re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience®, I AM LEGEND will debut concurrently with the nationwide 35mm releases.

With crystal clear, larger than life images and 12,000 watts of proprietary digital surround sound, IMAX will put audiences in the centre of this action-filled thriller providing a totally unique and immersive cinematic experience.

Two-time Academy Award-nominated actor Will Smith plays Robert Neville, the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world, somehow immune to a terrible and incurable man-made virus.

The film is directed by Francis Lawrence. The screenplay is by Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman, based on the novel by Richard Matheson and the 1971 screenplay “The Omega Man” by John and Joyce Corrington.

As a special treat for IMAX audiences only, a six-minute prologue of THE DARK KNIGHT will play before I AM LEGEND at IMAX. Scheduled to release in New Zealand on July 17 2008, THE DARK KNIGHT is the eagerly awaited sequel to BATMAN BEGINS which introduces Heath Ledger as The Joker.

The opening sequence specially filmed in the IMAX format, fulfilled a dream for the Batman director Christopher Nolan, who said he had wanted to shoot in the format for 15 years. In the finished film, there will be up to five IMAX sequences Nolan said.
