NZ U20 Ice Hockey Team makes history

The New Zealand Under 20's Ice Hockey team made history on Monday night by beating archrivals Australia 7 – 2 while competing in the International Ice Hockey Federation U20 World Championships Division 2 in Belgrade, Serbia.
This is the first time a New Zealand team has beaten Australia at the International Ice Hockey World Championships.

The New Zealand team turned up the intensity and played their best game of the tournament so far, causing an upset by beating the higher ranked Australians, and tomorrow morning will see New Zealand playing hosts and the only other unbeaten team Serbia.

The winner of this game will take home the Gold medal and also promotion into Division2 next year.

In the opening game New Zealand easily beat Bulgaria 19 – 1 and have followed up with strong games against Turkey 20 -1 and Armenia 8 – 4 to remain unbeaten.
The New Zealand team are currently leading the scoring and plus minus stats and are the tournament leaders due to a beater goal differential.
Christoher Eaden being the tournaments top scorer with 12 goals and 11 assists in four games.

New Zealand will be fighting for gold against Serbia, on Thursday 24 February 9.00am New Zealand time.
