Misleading reports mask Fanuary’s sole objective

Raising awareness for an area of women’s health is the sole objective of the legitimate fundraising promotion Fanuary.

Fanuary organiser Rebecca Harris says virtually everybody knows of someone, somewhere who has been traumatised by these types of cancers and the fundraising campaign is simply trying to help educate and support individuals through a difficult time.

“I am increasingly disappointed with how difficult it is these days to do something good,” Rebecca says.

Fanuary is run in association with the Women for Women Charitable Trust, an organisation registered through the Companies Office and Ministry of Economic Development as a Registered Charitable Trust.

“We are disappointed that media are continuing to ask for comment from other charitable organisations that are not involved with Fanuary. Why is it that media is always looking for a “scoop” and a controversial topic to spin?”

Fanuary organisers are also disappointed the media has put pressure on Dan Carter and his management team. “Dan Carter is not directly involved in Fanuary, however we do appreciate him signing the stickers”, she says.

Rebecca Harris also commented that, although this has caused quite a stir in New Zealand and the wider community, Fanuary has never asked for people to get involved who don’t want to.

“It’s simple, if you don’t want to know about it, talk about it, or hear about it, then just don’t listen, watch, or log on. We have a large number of supporters, which is what matters, they know the cause and respect what we are trying to do.”
