Thistle Hall open for arty-ness 2008!

Thistle Hall is a vibrant community centre in the heart of New Zealand's cultural capital. We provide a community hall, meeting room and Wellington's only community gallery showcasing a range of artists and crafts people, from the established to the emerging. Thistle Hall is located one the corner of Cuba and Arthur streets. The shows on at Thistle Hall Community Gallery are run by the artists who hire it.

The designer clothing store Duncan & Prudence in Newtown, where local customers create their own vintage selecting prints and enjoying custom hemming on all garments, is proud to launch their website. For one week Duncan & Prudence will showcase their products at Thistle Hall, along with their catalogues of print options. This is everyday wearable art folks! The designer, Duncan Mclean, will also exhibit other art pieces inspired by his clothing range, while the store's manager, Prudence Stone, will host talks about the politics of fashion and Duncan & Prudence's unique sustainable enterprise.

Visitors will be invited to go online and visualise for themselves the range of print options in different colours, and join the customer database for other future VIP events. Be proud and original, create your own vintage, New Zealand made and built for comfort.

An exhibition of paintings by James Harcourt.

I have exhibited extensively over the past 11 years and am pleased to be able to show a variety of new paintings. My works express different themes from the zen of mandala to conservation and resource management, with abstract and surrealist approaches. Two large works are created from flattened bottle caps found on the streets from all over Aotearoa, approximately 5000 caps in all. Other works are in oil and acrylics on flax paper, marine ply and some on canvas.

I studied at Whitireia in the '90s receiving a diploma in '95 and have consistently worked as an artist and curator since.
