Craft made cool in new exhibition

Rediscover the traditional craft of embroidery in Hoopla! - a week long creative workshop and exhibition at Artstation from 27 February to 5 March.

Adults and children can learn the basics of hand stitching to create art works using embroidery hoops and a selection of fabrics, buttons, beads, sequins and thread.

Artstation’s gallery will be transformed into the Hoopla! parlour, a relaxed lounge-like working space furnished with beanbags, couches and a digital fireplace.

Participants can join a stitch workshop or visit the parlour to stitch in their own time.

Facilitators Esther Lamb and Shelley Simpson and invited artists Judy Darragh, Karen Dennis and Rachelle Wood will be available at scheduled times to teach and inspire. They will also create new work for the Hoopla! exhibition.

As the project evolves the parlour walls will be adorned with participants’ unique creations in stitch. A closing celebration on Wednesday 5 March marks the completion of the Hoopla! project. Participants will be able to collect and keep their embroideries at the end of the exhibition.

“Hoopla! fosters the sense of fulfilment and satisfaction that results from hand making an item,” says facilitator Esther Lamb.
