Datsuns Bellrays Dirtbombs

LOCK UP YOUR PRECONCEPTIONS:
IT’S THE NOT-SO-SLIGHT RETURN OF A SONIC TRINITY KICKING THE PARTY INTO HIGH GEAR.

It’s official: triple-bills don’t get much more “force of nature” than this Three bands who have outlived any “it’s a scene!” kind of hype
return to New Zealand together, bringing their amped-up, joyous noise to the country in March Ladies and Gentlemen: our cultural ambassadors THE DATSUNS, with Detroit’s representatives THE DIRTBOMBS, and from Los Angeles THE BELLRAYS !!
Time has passed since THE DATSUNS brought it all back home on the back of their third album Smoke and Mirrors, and while most
of us have been busy going about our daily business, on the other side of the globe The Datsuns have howled through the European tour circuit on a high-voltage mission. From Estonia to Germany; from the flatlands of the Netherlands to the choppy North Sea on a Swedish
boat, Cambridge’s finest have been frazzling synapses and administering their characteristic adrenaline jolts to the Europeans. Now all those folk know what Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones knew five years ago: The Datsuns are hard-wired into the kind of fierce, primal rock n roll which transcends any tidy genre or musical trend, their electric performances powered by songs to explode your heart.
Yes, friends: stance and substance.

Though resident in Germany, The Datsuns recently layed down a smoking new album in the Svenska Grammofonstudion studio in Gothenborg, Sweden (run by the bigger-than-Abba The Soundtrack Of Our Lives). The record is currently being mixed for an
April release in the UK – but of course, it’s The Datsuns’ fellow countrymen who will be treated with live renditions before anyone else.
Thrills. Volume. POWER.

And also returning to our shores with their dangerous magical noise: THE DIRTBOMBS. Never mind the Pollocks – here’s the real
modern art: the punk rock n soul of the greatest Motor City quintet since the ‘5 (MC, not Jackson). With their fourth full-length We Have You Surrounded forthcoming, “the legendary” Mick Collins and his crew of fireballs (boasting the most thunderous two-drummer line-up since
the 1982 version of The Fall, and the only fuzz-powered dual bottom end which counts) are turning up the temperature.

Purists be damned – the garage is where this lot park their cars. For over a decade, The Dirtbombs have given soul, glam, art rock,
and punk a makeover in the bands’ signature style, firing up audiences worldwide with their sweat-drenched live performances.
.
The Datsuns and The Dirtbombs are joined by The BELLRAYS: an uplifting, original, beatific, and inspiring melange of punk-soul and R&B,
evoking the positive vibes of classic Motown, Stax/Volt, Parliament, and steamy inner-city funk. With a wordy and confusing description
like that, you can see why the band is self-defined as “Maximum Rock & Soul”. If that sounds appealing on paper,
ask anybody who witnessed the last visit by The BellRays
