Barker To Compete In Oki 24 Hour Yacht Race

18 February 2008

Invitation
Barker To Compete In Oki 24 Hour Yacht Race

Team NZ Skipper Dean Barker will be sailing a much smaller yacht than he’s normally used to when he takes part in this year’s OKI 24 hour yacht race at Lake Pupuke, Takapuna.

Dean will be competing in the Legends boat which, as the name suggests, has high profile sports people and celebrities crewing it.

One of New Zealand’s most unique yachting events, the OKI 24 Hour Race is a 24 hour endurance race open to sailors of any ability. Competing teams sail non-stop in rotating shifts with the winning team being the one that completes the most number of laps within the 24-hour period.

The event is split up into the following competitor groups: Open Class, Youth (under 19 years), Women’s, Masters (over 35 years) and a new Junior Youth Interclub Challenge.

You or your representative are invited to watch the thrills and spills of the yacht race:

Saturday 23 February 2008
2.00 p.m. - Le Mans start

Sunday 24 February 2008
2.00 p.m. – Race ends, prize giving

Please note: Dean Barker will be out competing on the water on the Sunday from approximately midday to 2 p.m.

There will be some great photo/visual opportunities, plus the opportunity to interview competitors before, during and after the event.
