Trophies Up for Grabs

Trophies Up for Grabs
With the Castrol New Zealand Superbike Road Race Championships moving into its final stages this weekend, a number of trophies are up for grabs. Not only are the New Zealand Road Race titles on offer, the following trophies will also be awarded. The Manufacturer’s Trophies in both Superbikes and 600 Sports Production and the much-coveted RK Chain Trophy

Manufacturer’s Trophy

In 2006, Motorcycling New Zealand’s Road Race Commissioner Paul Stewart instigated a Manufacturers Championship to be run in conjunction with the then SsangYong New Zealand Superbike Road Race Championships for New Zealand’s Premier road race classes (Superbikes and 600 Sports Production).
These championships will again be awarded for this year’s Castrol New Zealand Superbike Championships.

Points are allocated on a one to twentieth basis for first to twentieth.
The first bike of each manufacturer home in each championship race, scores the points allocated to that position.

E.g. a Suzuki finishes first, Suzuki get twenty points, the first Honda finishes third, Honda get eighteen points and so on.

So far this season, with the success of TripleR Racing’s Robbie Bugden and Dennis Charlett, Suzuki is leading in both the Superbike and 600 Sports Production class.

But with the hard charging Kawasaki pairing of Wellington’s Jay Lawrence and Hamilton’s Nick Cole and Bernard Yamaha’s International riders, Australians Gareth Jones and Damian Cudlin, along with American teenagers Dave and Matt Sadowski, coming to grips with the New Zealand circuits, the rest of the series will be extremely interesting.

The RK Chain Trophy:

The RK Chain Trophy is donated by W Whites Ltd and awarded to the highest points scoring Superbike rider running RK Chain during the 2008 Castrol New Zealand Superbike Championship.
The highly decorative Samurai helmet is present each year, making an impressive addition to any rider’s trophy cabinet; so far this year the charge is being lead by Australia’s Robbie Bugden on his Suzuki.
