Yacht Race Supports Local Youth

If you’ve ever fancied yourself as an America’s cup hero, here’s a chance to be part of the next best thing; a charity yacht race at Lyttleton Harbour on March 14, with proceeds going to Youthline’s free text support service.

The event, hosted by the Naval Point Yacht Club and Smiths City, gives punters the opportunity to grab a seat on a race boat and be part of the day’s action for $250 per head, followed by an after race function. Boats and skippers are provided by the Naval Point Yacht Club, with the proceeds from each ticket sold going directly to Youthline.

Seats on a spectator launch are also available at $100 per head.

Youthline has been in Christchurch for nearly 40 years and will soon be offering free text support to young people texting 234, providing a vital youth friendly stepping stone for youth seeking help.

Funds from the event will help set up the service in Christchurch and train volunteers to provide phone, text and email support to local young people and their families.

“This would be a great opportunity for workplaces to get a team together, or for individuals and even families to have a go at yacht racing and support a good cause,” says Youthline worker Tina Mackie.
