Unique & Iconic Jandal Art Exhibition
MEDIA RELEASE - 20 MARCH 2008
Unique & Iconic Jandal
Art Exhibition
The third annual Jandal Art Exhibiton
has flip flopped its way to a great start.
Held at
award-winning café, BeesOnline in Waimauku, the exhibition
features a variety of art, all entered by local artists,
from sculptures, mosaic, painting, photography, sketching
and embroidery, all inspired by the iconic
jandal.
Keep an eye out for Madeline Cleveland’s
piece of art who, at age seven, is the youngest entrant,
with her fully edible Jandal artwork.
BeesOnline
owner and founder of the exhibition, Maureen Maxwell,
comments “Every year the artwork is more creative and
diverse. It really is quite incredible what can be created
using the humble Kiwi jandal for
inspiration!”
The Jandal Art Exhibiiton is part
of a two week festival called the Jafa & Jandals Fest, which
aims to raise the profile of the Kumeu Coast & Country
region, by celebrating the friendly, family orientated,
relaxed lifestyle and community spirit that the local
residents enjoy. The Jafa & Jandals Fest began on 13th March
and runs through to Sunday 30th April.
Other events
happening throughout the Fest include Coopers Creek Jazz
events, a Croatian Harvest Festival at Soljans Winery, and a
‘Thong & Dance’ at Allely House.
The
Helensville Electorate MP and leader of the Opposition, John
Key, has even got involved by placing giant jandals (the
same pair that caused a stir in Parliament last year when
the Opposition accused him of “flip flopping”) on top of
his electorate office in Huapai.
The Fest is
organised by the The Kumeu Coast & Country Promotions Group
Inc., the area’s business association, which encompasses
the cliffs overlooking Muriwai and the Gannet Colony, north
to Woodhill Forest, Waimauku, Coatesville, historic
Riverhead, Taupaki and, of course, the Kumeu and Huapai
business districts.
For more information, pick up a
Trail Map from supporting businesses or the Kumeu Visitors
Information Centre. The Trail Map lists all companies

Country region.
