Age Concern New Zealand mourns patron

Age Concern is mourning its Patron, Dame Augusta Wallace who died on Saturday.

Dame Augusta, 78, was patron of Age Concern New Zealand, the national organisation which serves the needs of older people, since 1996.

"We will miss her guidance and friendship," says Age Concern's newly elected National President, Liz Baxendine. "She was an inspiring patron and leader, and she was also a friend to many of us.

"With her distinguished judicial career well into later life and wide range of community service, she provided a great example of positive ageing in action to us all.

"Dame Augusta died on Saturday, just as we were holding our national conference in Wellington, and she was much missed. Many an Age Concern  conference was enlivened with her sense of humour and great warmth.

"She was a wonderful human being."

Liz Baxendine and Age Concern express their condolences to Dame Augusta's friends and family.
