EXHIBITIONS – CELEBRATING MATARIKI

I te Marama – Into the Light

A pivotal time of year when seasons change. A time of darkness between the setting of the last moon of a yearly cycle and the rising moon of a new year. A time of reflection. In the hours before dawn Matariki lifts above the horizon and heralds another seasonal cycle.

I te Marama - Into the Light celebrates our progression into the new year with artists who work with light.

Includes work from Te Rongo Kirkwood, Tina Wirihana, Terry Klavenes, Kathy Shaw, Daphiney Owen, Donna Tupaea, Claudine Muru, Faanati Mamea and Fred Mans.

Opens: 6 June, 6 – 7.30pm
Gallery hours: Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm; Weekends 1 – 4pm

_Acquisitions

An exhibition made up of significant works from the MCC Collection. Artists will include Donna Tupaea, Mary Clifford, Rodney Frumpton, Barbara Tine, Richard Mills, Kura Rewiri, Christine Samuels, Robyn Kahukiwa, ‘Ahota’ei’loa Toetu’u, Fatu Feu’u, Ngahina Hohaia, Marina Luketic, Ivana Kurek and Reriana Munroe.

Some are recent acquisitions, others have been in the collection for a number of years. Due to the renovations at the Civic Centre, some works have become available for exhibition to the public for the first time.

ART SOURCE PROGRAMME – CLOSING DATE 2 JUNE

ART source 08 Programme

ART source, a development programme for creative, entrepreneurial people in Manukau is looking for new talent to apply for its 2008 round. The programme aims to help people develop their talent into strategies to enable them to make a better living from their craft.

The programme is tailored for people who are into music, fashion, architecture, visual art, graphic design, animation, film making, landscape design, dance or theatre or any other areas of the creative sector.

Applications for ART source 08 are due in by 2 June.

ART source has been developed by the Arts Regional Trust: Te Taumata Toi-a-Iwi (ART) in partnership with Manukau City Council.
