Event city grows from green fields
A perennial city is growing from the green fields of Mystery Creek Events Centre, south of Hamilton, this week, with just over one week left until the New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays opens for business.
The winter sunshine is welcome as a record number of exhibitors – over 1,000 – erect marquees, bring in groundcover and landscaping elements, finalise site designs and begin to truck in stock for the bumper agri-business week of the year at the Southern Hemisphere’s largest agricultural showcase.
Fieldays General Manager, Barry Quayle, has great expectations for the event which will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year with development and extension of the site to meet exhibitor demand and a host of celebratory elements from the History of Ag Art Wear and new ‘Kiwi’s Best’ NZ grown food marquee to a special Party Zone, set up to thank and entertain exhibitors, sponsors and Fieldays visitors for their support over the years.
“Fieldays 40th anniversary gives us an opportunity to really up our game to make a world-class event even better,” says Quayle. “Exhibitors, sponsors and visitors have played a huge part in making Fieldays a success and we look forward to celebrating with them.”

deal,” he says. “Farmers have been hit hard by drought conditions this year, but we remain confident that Fieldays during- and post-event sales will leave exhibitors smiling as farmers and growers invest to improve the performance of their businesses in the long-term.”
Fieldays also attracts a large number of visitors from non-rural areas every year, with the Eastern Exhibition / Rural Living area well-known as the place to go for the year’s best deals on products from home ventilation systems to spa pools and leathergoods. Fieldays attractions including Ag Art Wear and the Fieldays Rural Bachelor of the Year along with a full and varied demonstrations timetable also provide plenty to see and do for visitors, both urban and rural.
Fieldays’ 40th anniversary event kicks off next Wednesday, 11 June 2008 and runs through to Saturday 14 June 2008 with gates open from 8am to 5pm daily.
