George FM Goes Indie!

MEDIA RELEASE: George FM Goes Indie! It's Dance Music George, But Not As We Know It.

George FM Programme Directors Murry Sweetpants and Dean Campbell are pleased to announce the launch of the brand spanking new show - Quay Street Social Club Radio, starting tonight (Monday June 16th) at 10pm.

Andrew Tidball - Auckland based DJ, promoter and founder of music website cheeseontoast.co.nz - joins the George FM Whanau. "We play Indie, Retro, Electro, Pop, Hip Hop, Soul and a little Rock and Roll - music for the alternative dancefloor," he tells us. "We were attracted to George for several reasons, one of which being they are the only full power radio station in New Zealand to give their DJs 100% control over what they play. Cool." Joining Andrew on the show will be a rotating cast of special guests from his extensive network of musical mates, as well as co-host DJ Beatrix 'Ice' Coles.

Co-Programmer Murry Sweetpants can't wait to put the kids to bed, sneak out to the lounge in the dark and tune in every Monday. "George FM was long known as 'that house music station', which was great because there are so many interpretations and niche areas when it comes to that word, 'house,' and we still hold true to that original spirit with many dedicated and incredible shows. But as our listeners know over the last two years we have progressed and developed our programming and now, in June 2008, you can find anything from full spectrum jazz on a Sunday, to heaving dubstep on a Wednesday night, to quality hip hop on Tuesday nights, to deep techno and minimal cuts on Thursday evenings, to funk and house on a Monday arvo, to informed talk on a Sunday morning, to bangin' electro, fidget and tech house on your Thursday drive - bla bla bla the list goes on. It's kind of like a smorgasbord at Valentines, except George is free all year round, not just on your birthday." The unifying factor though it seems, is that 9 times out of 10, it'll make you want to dance, and feel gooooood.

That other (good looking/author of this press release) Programme Director Dean Campbell says it pleases him as much as a Boys Noise bassline to see the addition of the Quay Street Social Club show, continuing the station's musical evolution. "Andrew brings a barrel of musical knowledge to George and his alternative take on what gets a dancefloor moving is a cool string to our bow - why not mix a little MGMT with some Diplo and The Strokes and Santogold on a Monday night?" This new show adds to an already solid Monday lineup that includes the most positive Breakfast show in town with Peter Urlich, an eclectic musical lunch with Clarke Gayford, and dinner with Detroit ex-pat Recloose and his take on the sounds of funk, soul, house and techno.

See you on the dancefloor.

Love, George.
