NZ Gardener 2008 Gardener of the Year
24 June 2008
NZ Gardener 2008 Gardener of the Year - Final call for entries
With only a few days to go in the $20,000 search for the NZ Gardener 2008 Gardener of the Year, Kiwis are being urged to nominate the most passionate gardener they know.
The competition aims to recognise and reward the nation’s unsung horticultural heroes by unearthing 15 regional champions in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu-Wanganui, Taranaki, Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.
“We’re looking for keen Kiwi gardeners who go out of their way to encourage others to get growing – and who deserve recognition for their community spirit,” says NZ Gardener editor Lynda Hallinan.
Nominations close
on 30 June, with each regional winner taking home a $1000
prize package. The overall winner, as decided by a public
vote, scoops $5,000 to spend at Bunnings Warehouse and a
luxury trip for two to Hunter’s Garden Marlborough in
November.
Last year’s inaugural NZ Gardener 2007
Gardener of the Year competition was won by retired Waikato
minister Trevor Bennett, who raised over $50,000 for charity
by growing thousands of plants.
