Michael Lett is pleased to announce that Fractal Tears, the current exhibition of new work by Dan Arps, will be open until Saturday 5 July, 2008.
Fractal Tears is a series of fragmentary, incomplete and broken-down sculptures accompanied by a series of altered posters that might best be described as a collection of sad hallucinations.
Dan Arps has exhibited extensively in both New Zealand and Australia. In 2007 he presented the significant solo projects: Gestapo Pussy Ranch, Physics Room, Christchurch; Affirmation Dungeon, Gambia Castle, Auckland, and in June 2008 he will present Motivation Bunker at Neon Parc, Melbourne. This is Arps’ first solo presentation at Michael Lett.
Dan Arps was born in Christchurch in 1976 and graduated from the University of Canterbury, Ilam School of Fine Arts in 2000 and the University of Auckland, Elam School of Fine Arts Masters Programme in 2006. Arps is currently based in Auckland where he is a founding member of Gambia Castle and co-editor of Natural Selection.
In conjunction with the opening of Fractal Tears, Michael Lett will release Sun Seeker - a catalogue for Dan Arps’ 2007 exhibition Gestapo Pussy Ranch at the Physics Room, Christchurch. Sun Seeker is co-published by The Physics Room, Neon Parc, Michael Lett and Clouds and includes a new text by Gwynneth Porter and Dan Arps and over 25 colour and monochrome illustrations.
