More Mean Sports Stars On Hyundai Code – On Maori Television!

Peter ‘The Mad Butcher’ Leitch, former Black Cap and ‘The Rock’ DJ Simon Doull, New Zealand heavyweight champion Shane Cameron and former All Black, Welsh player and Auckland rugby coach Shane Howarth join award-winning sports entertainment show HYUNDAI CODE this Thursday July 3 at 8.30 PM (repeats Sunday July 6 at 4.00 PM).

From his unstinting support of the Vodafone Warriors, to his association with sausage sizzle fundraisers and affordable family meat packs everywhere, it’s hard to imagine New Zealand life was ever without The Mad Butcher. From Northland to the Bluff, he’s as famous for his outspoken and lively personality - and unwaivering passion for rugby league - as he is for his sausage-making empire. It’s a high profile he’s also happily put to use for the greater good. In 1991, the butcher also known as Peter Leitch was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal for his work in the community, for such causes as children’s cancer camps, breast and prostate cancer, glue ear and the national burns centre at Middlemore Hospital.

Simon Doull was a regular face in the New Zealand Black Cap squad in his day, and he played 32 tests and 42 one-day internationals for his side. A right arm medium pace swing bowler, his career best was against India on Boxing Day 1998, at Wellington’s Basin Reserve where he took an impressive 7/65. His current role as a breakfast radio host on The Rock is no less successful, and along with fellow hosts Leah Panapa and Roger Farrelly ‘The Morning Rumble’ took out this year’s New Zealand Radio Award for best music breakfast show.

Heavyweight boxer Shane ‘Mountain Warrior’ Cameron - ranked 15th in the world, on top of being number one in this country – is riding high. At 30, he’s clocked up 21 wins from 22 fights in his career. Fresh from his victory over Kevin ‘Big Dog’ Montiy in Wellington last Saturday, with a technical knockout in the fifth round, he looks to have the mental and physical fitness to continue his steady climb through the boxing ranks. The Mountain Warrior joins the HYUNDAI CODE team for a presentation from his Wellington sponsors, the Hutt Boyz.

Shane Howarth is one of the few rugby stars to have played at international level for more than one country. His debut for the All Blacks was against South Africa in 1994, and though the fullback played another three games for that side, he later switched shirts to play for Wales. That came to an abrupt end in 2000, when it was discovered his grandfather was not born in Wales but New Zealand, and meanwhile the rules were changing so that a player could only represent one country. He remained at Welsh club Newport RFC for another three years, and on retirement launched a successful coaching career to help Auckland claim four championships in 10 years.
