Top Chefs Cook Up New Tastes At The Food Show In Auckland
Top international and local chefs will cook up a storm for audiences at The Food Show, returning to Auckland from 31 July - 3 August at the ASB Showgrounds.
Not only will the Show feature more than 250 exhibitors, the Electrolux Cooking Theatre will host a line-up of celebrity chefs and wine experts, including Australian-based, French chef Gabriel Gaté.
Formerly of the Loire Valley in France, Gabriel trained in some of France's most modern restaurants before moving to Australia, where he is now a star in the world of fine food. Gabriel is a freelance chef and accomplished author, with a selection of cook books that have sold more than one million copies. He has presented several television cooking shows including 'The Good Food Show', and 'Taste Le Tour with Gabriel Gate'. The latter features the exquisite French cuisine, wine, and cheeses from the regions through which the Tour de France bicycle race passes each year.
"The most important attribute of a great cook is his or her memory of smells, flavours, colours and textures, combined with, of course, methods and techniques of cooking," says Gabriel.
Visitors to The Food Show can smell, taste and experience Gabriel's culinary talents, as he shares his secrets on stage in Auckland.
Joining Gabriel in the Electrolux Cooking Theatre is ex-pat Kiwi Peter Gordon. Originally from Wanganui, Peter is executive chef and co-owner of The Providores in London, as well as executive chef at Auckland's 'dine by Peter Gordon' at the SKYCITY Grand Hotel. Peter is a prolific cookbook writer, who has forged a reputation for innovative fusion cuisine - where the thrill of creating a new dish lies in the understanding of ingredients from all over the globe.
Lauraine Jacobs is featuring in the Auckland Show's line-up for the first time, and will share some of her favourite recipes using the freshest of New Zealand's seasonal produce. Another Food Show favourite, Peta Mathias, will delight audiences with her tastes and tales from Marrakesh and the south of France, including dishes bursting with olive oil, almonds and lavender.
Lauraine and Peta will be joined by acclaimed food and wine experts throughout the event:
• Annabelle White guarantees a laugh in her fun-filled
interactive session where she shares her top tips, food
guidelines, and safety advice
• Ray McVinnie draws on
his favourite recipes from Cuisine and Sunday Magazine to
show how easy it is to cook a relaxed dinner for friends and
family
• Annabel Langbein will provide pointers on how
to produce stylish, elegant meals without breaking the
bank
• Ruth Pretty will talk about the best way to
spend a lazy Sunday afternoon at home with good wine and
wholesome hearty food
• Sileni Estate's Andy Glover
and wine guru Belinda Jackson will also be on-hand to
entertain and inform with free live demonstrations in the
Electrolux Cooking Theatre
Don't miss out on a sneak preview of Martin Bosley's latest dishes, which he will be demonstrating only on the Preview Day. Martin's newest cookbook is due for release mid-August 2008, and he is sharing a selection of recipes with an exclusive Food Show audience.
For dedicated food and wine lovers, the Preview Day offers an exclusive sneak peek at the exhibits on site, without the crowds. The Preview Day will be held on Thursday 31 July, with only 3,000 tickets available at $35 each.
