Polish International Film Festival builds a special stage to honour New Zealand artist Shona McCullagh as an internationally innovative director and choreographer.
Era New Horizons International Film Festival (http://www.eranowehoryzonty.pl/) held in Wroclaw, Poland between 17th and 27th of July 2008, will showcase 4 films by New Zealand artist, Shona McCullagh, as well as featuring a commissioned live performance created by McCullagh specifically for the Festival. The film festival is renowned for screening works from uncompromising artists, whose films provoke and demand discussions from viewers and this year holds a special focus for New Zealand work.
Era New Horizons will screen McCullagh’s four films Hurtle, Fly, Break and her latest short Mondo Nuovo, also selected for this year’s NZ International Film Festival. Additionally, the Festival has requested screenings of the documentary on fellow choreographer , co-produced by McCullagh and directed by Leanne Pooley, “Haunting Douglas”.
The Festival is erecting a custom-built stage at their outdoor venue in Wroclaw’s town square to house a commissioned half hour interactive performance, featuring two Polish and two Kiwi dancers, plus music by Michael Hodgson and John Gibson. Gibson’s score also accompanies the new feature “Rain of the Children” by Vincent Ward, also attending the Festival.
Shona McCullagh is a cross-platform artist focusing her time on creating interactive installations, filmmaking and choreographing for feature films and television series. In addition she is founder and Director of The Human Garden Agency as well as a New Zealand Arts Laureate.
