Southern Opera Getting Ready To Tour Again
MEDIA RELEASE – July 2008
Solid Energy Ensemble Of Southern Opera Getting Ready To Tour Again
Following a highly successful inaugural tour, the Solid Energy Ensemble of Southern Opera is gearing up for its second concert series in August. Their first tour saw packed venues and standing ovations at all three concerts, a trend likely to continue as they appear in Blenheim and Ashburton for the very first time and returning to Christchurch – back by popular demand for their Love, Life & Laughter tour. The Solid Energy Ensemble is a sensational elite choral group consisting of 15 carefully selected singers from the Christchurch region, with repertoire from Puccini to Lloyd Webber, Figaro to Fledermaus, this dynamic group has a mission to entertain.
Southern Opera has a clear
mandate - to provide world-class opera performances
throughout the South Island and to nurture local talent.
“The South Island has provided many of New Zealand’s
most successful young opera singers. It is essential that
we continue to provide opportunities for these artists to
perform in Christchurch and throughout the South Island,”
said Christopher Doig, Executive Chair of Southern Opera.
“We are delighted to have Solid Energy backing this new
venture. Their support enables us to bring outstanding
opera experiences to residents across all regions of the
South Island.”
After an extensive audition process earlier this year, 15 singers were carefully selected to form this professional group. The singers are working with experts in the opera industry both from within New Zealand and internationally. They are participating in workshops for personal growth, form the nucleus of the Southern Opera chorus performing in Il trovatore later this year and will gain the experience to secure small roles within main stage productions. In addition to their concert tours, these artists will be provided with further performance opportunities in festivals, corporate entertainment and private functions.
Solid Energy has stepped up to support these local artists as the major sponsor for the group building on the company’s established support for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s Education and Outreach programme in the South Island.
The Solid Energy Ensemble is currently in rehearsal for their second concert series, which is scheduled to tour in August and features a programme of well known opera choruses, solos and duets, and repertoire ranging from opera to musical theatre and even a bit of popera – something for everyone. Presented by singers not only chosen for their voices but also for their dynamic personalities, these concerts will most certainly bring together exceptional voices for an amazing performance.
The Love, Life & Laughter tour features an evening concert in Blenheim on Saturday 16th of August at the Marlborough Convention Centre, Christchurch at the Great Hall on 17th of August and a third appearance in Ashburton at Ashburton Trust Event Centre on 21st August. Tickets go on sale on Thursday 10 July. For booking information go to www.southernopera.com.
