Students’ work features in this Years’ WOW Show

Whitireia Art students’ work features in this Years’ Montana WOW Show, 26 September.

Four separate entries from Whitireia Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual Arts) students have been accepted into Montana World of Wearable arts twentieth anniversary show, being held at TSB Bank arena located on the Wellington waterfront.

To a sold out season of local and international audiences; Olivia Giles, Joan Atter, Chris Apisai Wong and Cleo Thorpe Ngata have a group entry accepted in their first year of entering. Billee Mutton and Rita Schrieken have had work in the show in previous years, and have again had work accepted for the exhibition.

Mutton, in her final year of a Bachelor of Applied Arts, says ‘it has been a real challenge to complete entries while studying this year, but seeing my work on stage is a great feeling’.

Giles is still elated from the letter of acceptance, ‘it’s been amazing to have our work recognised after all the effort we have put in, having your work accepted first time round is a rare occurrence’. The decision to enter was made at the last minute for the second year students but the concepts and development were started in textiles studio in term one.

Tutor Deb Donnelly says that experience in competitions like Montana WOW, gives students the opportunity to aim for high levels of creative practice. ‘I was very pleased they made decisions that encourage creative enterprise and promotion during their studies. It will be an exciting awards night on Friday 26 September to see all the fantastic works brought to life on stage’.
