Meke My Waka In Gear And Ready To Roll On Maori Television
Cool cars, fast cars, classic cars and their adoring owners - and a beaten up old Beema about to go from clapped out to pimped out.
Maori Television's MEKE MY WAKA is a must-see programme for car lovers of every persuasion, and returns to screens on Friday October 10 at 8.00 PM.
Now in its third series, MEKE MY WAKA presenters Kara Rickard (Ngati Porou, Ngati Koata) and Rangi Rangitukunoa (Ngati Ranginui, Ngai Te Rangi, Ngati Ruanui) are in over-drive this season, to find the best motoring stories in Aotearoa.
In the 'Profiler' segment, some of the finest cars in the country get the once over. From classic rides to hotrods, to just plain hot – these are the rides viewers dream about owning. Among them: a stunning Chevy Silverado built at Ed Junior Kustom Rides and Classics, a futuristic RX7, a hot red RX8 and a sacked out Mercedes.
Celebrities and their flash wheels are back again this season, featuring the likes of Jonah Lomu and his collection of European cars, kick-boxing champion Jason Suttie and his shiny chopper and Ben Lummis, as he sings the praises of his WRX SCI.
Motoring events from around the country include the Kaipara Car Show and the American Muscle Car Show, while thrills and spills come via drag races, downhill luge racing and extreme indoor go-karts.
The 'hori ride' segment seeks out the grassroots car enthusiasts dotted around Aotearoa, and takes a long look at the glorious objects of their obsession. Among the vehicles to watch out for: a thundering 800 horse-power Barracuda, and a tiger of an HQ Holden.
And of course, weekly instalments follow the transformation of the old Beema, courtesy of Paul (Ngati Porou) and Bradley (Ngati Southampton) from Khyber Automotive.
"Just like our viewers, I'm a true car fanatic myself, as is everyone involved in the programme," says MEKE MY WAKA producer James Ratahi. I'm really confident we've covered all bases, from the slick motors to the down-home guys tinkering in their garages. This is a season not to be missed!
Add to the mix music, fashion and even more car-related stuff, and this show has everything a car-crazy person needs. MEKE MY WAKA roars across the start line on Maori Television on Friday October 10 at 8.00 PM.
