Fashion Week: Stolen Girlfriends Club
Fashion Week: Stolen Girlfriends Club
The Wednesday night rain did nothing to dampen the mood at the Stolen Girlfriends Club off-site show last night, held in a DHL warehouse in Morningside. The vibe was casual and the room filled with hip art-school types, celebs, and fashion media who looked pleased to be taking a break from Halsey Street and let their hair down a bit.
'Pretty Vacant' is a punky, Sex Pistols inspired collection, with plenty of 90's influences: plaid, ripped fabric, black tulle and a s**t load of attitude. Designer Zara Merkin's personal style can be seen all over it, as can Marc Moore's – cementing the fact that Stolen Girlfriends Club is not really just a clothing label – it represents a lifestyle too.

I am a total sucker for ripped-up, cut off denim shorts and the ones worn down the runway by the half-dead looking models seems the perfect pair – it's not easy to achieve the perfect cut-offs you know!
It is a collection full of texture – with velvet, Swandri-like fabric, Madonna lace, spider-web lace, faux fur, and leopard print all making appearances – hello Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love!
We loved the addition of the cutsie bows, peace signs and love-heart symbols – the lightened up what was otherwise a rather dark and grungy collection.
