NZ Breakers Free-To-Air Basketball
NZ Breakers Free-To-Air Basketball - On Maori Television!
A new season of the best free-to-air basketball action is underway, with all the NZ Breakers home games screening on Maori Television in POITUKOHU ANBL on Thursday nights at 8.00 PM.
The indigenous channel has the broadcast rights to screen all 15 home games of the NZ Breakers as they take on the might of the Australian National Basketball League (ANBL) in the 2008-2009 championship. On Thursday nights where there are no games being played at the North Shore Events Centre, Maori Television will screen off-shore games from the league.
The first five games of the New Zealand team's season have been scheduled to be played at home, with the first of these against Wollongong Hawks last week producing a resounding win for the local team. The next will be against the Melbourne Tigers - the defending champions from last season - this Thursday September 25.
The station expects strong viewer interest in how the team gets on. Â Says general manager of sales, marketing and communication Sonya Haggie: "Maori Television reaches more than 1.5 million New Zealanders every month, and we know that free-to-air, top level sport is television that many New Zealanders want to watch."
The NZ Breakers did well last year to make the playoffs for the first time, and all that action was caught on Maori Television. Followers of the game look forward to even greater things this time round after some exciting new signings - well-known New Zealand player Dillon Boucher, and talented Aussie imports Adam Tanner and CJ Bruton.
All eyes will be on coach, Andre, Lemanis to see if he can get the team to gel, and convert their potential as individuals into team wins.
Tip off at the North Shore Events Centre at 7.30 PM, with Maori Television's broadcast due to commence at 8.00 PM. Seasoned sports anchor Te Arahi Maipi will be on commentary with Chris Tupu.
