Craft2.0 bursts into flower for its Spring return to TheNewDowse on Saturday October 11, where we also celebrate the 21st birthday of doll Huttette, who features in the A Family Occasion exhibition as a baby. There’s no yard glass or Eagles soundtrack for this valley girl, but she will have a whole craft fair to welcome her into adulthood, with a new look for the noughties thanks to textile artist Vita Cochran.

Craft2.0 is a family-friendly indie craft fair, bringing more than 50 independent artists and crafters in one spot to show off and sell their luscious local wares. From babywear to jewellery, screen prints, Tshirts, toys, cupcakes, badges and bags - we've got your earlybird Christmas shopping covered. Everything is 100% New Zealand-made, and most items are one-off or limited edition creations. Feel good about spending money on unique, environmentally-friendly creations instead of buying mass-produced imported goods that will be broken by Boxing Day.

From 1pm Village Beads will run a beaded angels workshop, and throughout the day Hutt Valley Community Arts offer a DIY drop-in activity, where kids young and old can create a floral bouquet from buttons, cardboard and pipe cleaners. Everything is supplied so all you need is your creativity, but we warn you – it’s addictive.

To celebrate Huttette's 21st we've got 100 awesome goody bags, with Cafe Reka fudge, badges, pretty postcards and other tasty morsels. At 10am the goody bags will be handed out upstairs in A Family Occasion where you can check out how Huttette looks all grown-up. We also have a Happy 21st Huttette prize draw, where you can win over $200 of crafty treats, including a year’s supply of World Sweet World magazine. The prize draw takes place at 2pm - one entry per person please ; )

Craft 2.0 goody bags are made from recycled materials and are themselves 100% recyclable and biodegradable. Many of our crafters use recycled/vintage materials, like cast-off aluminium tabs, e-waste, old board games, cutlery and other quirky objects that often end up at the rubbish dump - it’s all about being resourceful. We love finding new and unusual ways to reuse discarded items, and we hope we’ll inspire you to do the same
