Andrew Saville has been
confirmed as ONE News sports anchor, effective immediately.
Jenny May Coffin will be present the sports news on Fridays
and Saturdays, and be back-up to Andrew.
Andrew is an award-winning sports journalist whose career in broadcast journalism spans 15 years. He has been with ONE News since 2006.
He started at Newstalk ZB Christchurch, then moved to Auckland to work on the Paul Holmes Breakfast show at Newstalk ZB, and Radio Sport. He took over the key radio rugby commentating role in 1999, calling Auckland NPC, Blues Super Rugby and nearly 50 All Black test matches for the next eight years.
"Andrew is a highly experienced rugby journalist and commentator, and he's equally comfortable reporting other sports. He has been to three Commonwealth Games and three Olympic Games," says Paul Patrick, ONE News at 6pm Editor.
Andrew won the Sir Terry McLean Sports Journalist of the Year Award in 2006, and the top sports news broadcast award last year for his coverage of the 2007 World Cup.*
Andrew remains ONE News' primary All Black reporter. He will also continue to be part of the ONE Sport team, on events such as the Heineken Open, ASB Classic and the Wellington Sevens.
Jenny-May was a member of the Silver Ferns from 1999 to 2003. She first became involved in netball commentary in 2003 during the Netball World Championships and has since worked as a journalist for both ONE Sport, a presenter on the ONE News sport desk, and TVNZ 7's News Now team as a producer-presenter.
ONE News Sports reporter Toni Street will provide additional backup over the next couple of months.
