US Summer Camp Experience
Press release: US Summer Camp Experience
During our most recent winter with all the rain, snow and cold, one Kiwi was working over 10,500km away, high in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountains of central California, USA. Cameron Russell of Glenfield, North Shore spent 9 weeks on the beautiful Huntington Lake working at a summer camp as a sailing and kayaking instructor, made possible by CCUSA. This particular camp, Gold Arrow Camp, is for girls and boys aged 6-14, and offers a range of outdoor activities including rock climbing, arts & crafts, wakeboarding and backpacking. During the day, Cameron would instruct children of all age groups in the camp in sailing or kayaking, and the rest of the time he spent with his own cabin group at meals, playing games, at campfires and sleeping in the cabin. Camp is an American tradition, and being a part of it as a counselor is the ultimate experience.
Cameron was initially hired at Gold Arrow in 2006 through one of CCUSA's unique Job Fairs, where actual American camp directors are brought to New Zealand to hire counselors. After spending the summer of his life there in 2006, he has returned for more amazing summers. Camp Counselors USA (CCUSA) works with over 1000 camps throughout the USA, and have a brilliant placement program, so there will always be a perfect match for every participant in the program. In addition to that, CCUSA guarantee placement at a camp if accepted prior to April! For all the info you need about the program and applying, just go to ccusa.com or email gabby@ccusa.co.nz
