Love, laughter, dreams and adventure under the Barcelona sun are brought to life in a riot of bright colours in the Meridian Season of Don Quixote, opening this month.
To mark his remarkable 50-year career with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Sir Jon Trimmer will star as “The Don”. He’ll be joined by a colourful cast of characters and guest stars, who will bring this hilarious, riotous tale to life.
Sir Jon, 69, joined the RNZB in 1958 and has gone on to achieve an international following. In 1999 he received a knighthood for services to ballet.
He was recently named as a finalist in the Arts section of the Wellingtonian of the Year Awards, and honoured with an event at Government House.
Sir Jon will be joined on stage in Don Quixote
by guest stars former RNZB principal dancer Shannon Dawson
and ex-pat New Zealander, Marc Cassidy from The Australian
Ballet.
Designed by RNZB artist director Gary Harris, Don Quixote is a family-friendly ballet featuring the best of classical dance technique set to the sparkling melodies of revered composer Ludwig Minkus.
